The second-hand marketplace Users Express Frustration Over Sizing Updates

Vinted users have been reacting angrily following a change that caused items being listed as the wrong size.

This online marketplace has revised its sizing categories for women's and children's garments but did not contact every member regarding the update.

Social Media Response

Numerous buyers and vendors have taken to social media claiming that product pages now present a modified sizing category compared to what was initially listed due to the recalibration.

The platform stated the new system was more in line with similar services.

They have suggested members to review their products and manually change the size when needed, which has left users frustrated.

Size Classification Changes

Before the change, the sizes had both numerical and alphabetical indicators, like S/8 or M/10.

The new system has a letter with a size spectrum for example S/UK 8-10.

For certain items, the measurements have been reclassified - for example a size L used to be a 12 but is now a UK 16-18.

Member Experiences

One content creator, who creates plus-size fashion videos, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".

"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.

Another user, from Glasgow, stated items she posted with size 14 tags were appearing on the platform as larger sizing 20-22.

"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they may become frustrated," she said.

Necessary Adjustments

Another shopper, from Derby, explained she became annoyed because the modification necessitated personal updates the sizes on "every single listing".

"This situation is especially annoying, because of my ongoing medical condition and platform income has been essential for me since losing part of my income," she explained.

Platform Context

The platform boasts over 100 million shoppers, with 18 million British users.

It has become a favored option versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.

This isn't the first time where an unanticipated change within the service has received backlash: earlier, the service retracted a modification to its shipping options following member complaints.
